The following guide will walk through the steps to set up a new user within the Windows SBS Server 2008 operating system.

Step 1: From the desktop of the server. Open the Windows SBS console and click on add a new user account.

Step 2: Fill out the first name and last name fields on the Add a New User Account window. Then in the user name box place a dot between the first name and last name of the generated user name so it matches the following format firstname.lastname. Then click on the next button at the bottom of the window.

Step 3: This step the password for the new user will be set. This should be set to Password1 (note capital ‘P’). The user can then change this if they so wish too. Once you have set the password click on the add new user account button and the user account is set up.

Step 4: Once the user has been added click on Start > Administrative Tools > Active Directory Users and Computers. Select the user you have just created and double click on your new user to access the menu below.

Step 5: Go straight to the “Profile” tab. You will need to edit these fields before your user will function correctly.

Step 6: Next select in the home folder sections the “connect” option and use the drop down box to select the H:/ drive. You must then type the following in the box to the right:

Click Apply then OK to exit that screen. Your new user should be now functional.
