How to print to a printer shared from a Windows PC

NOTE: Which ever PC the printer is plugged in, must be turned on for the printer to work for other PCs

  1. The first step is to find out the computer name
    1. Go to the start menu on the computer the printer is shared from
    2. Click on the cog icon
    3. Select the "System" option
    4. Go to the "About" option in the left menu
    5. You should now see the computer name listed
  2. Now, you can install the printer by using the run prompt from the start menu    
    1. Click the Start button
    2. Type; run
    3. Select the "Run" app
  3. In the run prompt, type two backslashes, \\, followed by the computer name, for example; \\oliver-pcw10
  4. Click the "OK" button and you should get a window with an icon labelled with the printer name in it;
  5. Double click the icon to install the printer
  6. Now you can select the printer in your applications
